Thirty-Nine Escambia County Students Awarded Shining Stars

The Community Foundation of Northwest Florida and WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast, recognized 39 Escambia County elementary students as Shining Stars in a ceremony Sunday, May 6, 2012, at WSRE’s Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio on the main campus of Pensacola State College.

Area principals and teachers selected one student from each public and private elementary school on the basis of their behavior, academic achievement, citizenship and community service. Each winner was awarded a certificate of achievement and a new bicycle. In addition, the winners autographed a billboard on Wednesday, May 2, 3:30 p.m., at Lamar Advertising, which was erected in their honor in downtown Pensacola.

The Community Foundation of Northwest Florida helps charitable donors of all means establish charitable funds to benefit non-profit organizations in the community. WSRE is the PBS affiliate for the Gulf Coast area. In addition, WSRE is also a non-profit organization with a mission to make a positive difference in the lives of citizens of our community through broadcast programming and educational outreach services.
